Brakes and Stuff

I’m back to work after an excellent holiday break. The perfect balance of socializing and celebrating, and being one with my couch. I also discovered Hallmark Christmas movies and delighted in their cheese factor and predictability, as well as ejecting in the first ten minutes any movie that was clearly even more rubbish than usual. Feel free to contact me for a list of approved movies.

The specialist which Kia informed me six weeks ago would be coming in the new year came to look at the car yesterday. Now, you won’t remember, but in early October, when Kia first got my car and found themselves stumped, I told them that in my hours of searching online for a car with a similar problem yielded a post buried somewhere talking about an issue that mirrored my issue. I told Kia that it may be the Integrated Brake Actuation Unit.

This morning I called my contact at Kia for an update. He returned my call this afternoon, informing me that the specialist came yesterday, and that there have only been a few cases IN THE COUNTRY of this happening. He told me it’s a $6000 fix (I do not care, dude, that’s Kia’s problem), that they ordered the parts needed to repair it for overnight delivery. He said “it’s the brake system. They’re just replacing the whole thing”

“Can you tell me again what they’re replacing?” I asked him, for my notes.

“Let me look it up here” he said, going through notes at his ends, “It’s the Integrated…..Brake Actuation Unit.”

Right. That’s what I thought.

I know it’s unlikely Kia will reimburse me for the insurance I had to pay on the car I couldn’t drive since they are (supposedly) covering the cost of the rental, but I will be pressuring them to increase my warranty coverage from 60k to 100k for free.
